Trifolium echinatum var. carmeli (Boiss.) Gib.et Belli
Annual, erect or ascending, rarely prostrate. Leaves alternate; stipules membranous, linear-oblong, Leaflets 1-3 cm long, 3-15 mm broad, those of lower leaves obovate, of the middle ones broadly-elliptical, those of the upper ones narrow-elliptical or oblong cuneate, oppressed pubescent on both sides. Flowers in peduncled solitary terminal heads, broadly-ovoid, 1.0-1.8 cm long, 1.0-1.5 cm broad. Flowers sessile, 10-13 mm long, cream coloured with pink spot on top of keel. Calyx hirsute at upper part, lobes strongly unequal, plumose-setulose, the lowest up to 6 mm long. Vexillum 1.3-1.5 cm long, 1½ times as long as wing and keel. Fruiting head 1.5-2.0 cm long.
Distribution: Palestine, introduced in Pakistan (Khairpur).
Generally the varietal rank is considered appropriate for this taxon.
