  • Hedysarum cornutum Linn.

    Perennial, branched spiny shrub, forming cushions or tufts, up to 60 cm in diameter and height. Leaflets 5-11, 5-10 mm long, 2-5 mm broad, linear or linear-lanceolate, pubescent on both sides, acute to obtuse; stipules adnate, scarious. Inflorescence a 2-5-flowered, peduncled raceme. Bract c. 3 mm long. Pedicel c. 3 mm long. Calyx 4.5-6 mm long, teeth subequal, 2-2.5 mm long. Corolla reddish purple, lavender, pink or white. Vexillum 10-17 mm long. Ovary glabrous or pilose. Fruit 8-13 mm long, glabrous or pubescent, suborbicular, compressed, crested.

    Fl.Per.: May-October.

    Type: Habitat in orient, D.Gerard, Herb.Linn.921/71 (LINN).

    Distribution: Pakistan, Afghanistan, Iran, Syria, Russia, Turkestan.
