Annual 26-75 cm tall, glabrous. Leaves elliptic to elliptic-ovate, 20-120 x 12-46 mm, crenate-dentate. Petiole up to 30 mm long with 2 basal glands. Peduncles 35-95 mm long. Flowers pink-yellow, 25-30 mm long, raphides present; pedicel c. 15-20 mm, up to 25 mm in fruit. Bracts broad, ovate, 2.5-3 mm long, apiculate. Lateral sepals 3.5-4 mm, subcordate to broadly ovate, apiculate, green, lower sepal broadly conical. Anterior petal broad, orbicular, 7-8 x 14-15 mm, pink; lateral united petals 15-20 mm, unequal, upper one oblique-obovate to broad obdeltate. Capsule cylindric, 2.2-3 cm long, erect. Seeds rugose, lineate.

Distribution: NW. Himalayas from Nepal & Kumaon to Kashmir and Hazara.
Fairly common and gregarious in shady and open places from 1700-3000 m. Has large, attractive pink & yellow flowers. The size, colour and texture of leaves is variable. The inflorescence may be subumbelled or elongated and interrupted.
