Differs from the type subspecies in the narrow lanceolate leaves and the upper petal (of the lateral fused pair) without an appendage.
Type: Shendtoi, 2850-3250 m, Kurram, Aitchison 1005 (K).
Distribution: Kurram.
There is an overlapping of leaf characters with the type subspecies. Narrow leaf forms of ssp. thomsonii are met with in the Minimarg area, south of Burzil Pass (R.R. Stewart, 19739A & 19739 p.p. (RAW). In the latter specimens some of the leaves are crenate-dentate.
