Tricholaena monachne (Trin.) Stapf & Hubbard in Prain, Fl. Trop. Afr. 9:909. 1930. has been cultivated at the Agricultural College in Tando Jam (J.J. Norris 167 (K) but does not appear to have escaped. It can easily be mistaken for a species of Panicum but is distinguished by the microscopic lower glume being much smaller than that in any local species of Panicum.
