Tufted perennial; culms 16-33cm high, usually erect. Leaf-blades flat or folded, 7-11cm long, 1.5-2mm wide, abruptly pointed, scabrid on the margins and both surfaces; ligule lacerate, 2-3mm long. Panicle narrow, 9-12cm long, sometimes nodding; branches paired or solitary, ascending, very scabrid. Spikelets 4-5-flowered, broadly wedge-shaped, 4-4.5mm long, green; glumes subequal, 3-nerved, lanceolate-acuminate, 2.5-4mm long; lemmas oblong in side-view, 2.7-3mm long, obtuse, ciliate on the keel and marginal nerves, with scant but distinct wool at the base; palea shorter than the lemma, scabrid along the keels; anthers 0.6-0.75mm long.
