Tufted perennial; culms 25-40cm high, erect. Leaf-blades flat or rarely convolute, 3-15cm long, 1-2 mm wide, flaccid, tapering to a sharp point, scabrid on the margins and sometimes also on the surfaces; ligule truncate, 1.5-3 mm long, Panicle narrow, few-spiculate, 7-15cm long; branches 2-3 at the nodes, ascending, flexuous, very scabrid. Spikelets (2-)3-4(-5)-flowered, broadly wedge-shaped, 4-6mm long, greenish or pallid and tinged with yellow or brown; glumes subequal, 3-nerved, elliptic to lanceolate, 3-4 mm long; lemmas oblong in side-view, 2.5-4(-5)mm long, obtuse, ciliate on the keel and marginal nerves, without or with scant wool at the base; palea slightly shorter than the lemma, finely pecti¬nate along the keels; anthers 1.5-2.5mm long.

Fl. & Fr. Per.: July-August.

Type locality: “Tauria”.

Very similar to Poa nemoralis, differing largely by the longer ligule. 1300-4700m.
