Suberect to decumbent, often caespitose plants, with shorter or abbreviated branches and flowers mostly 2-3 together.

“Juncus turkestanicus Krecz. & Gontsch.” seems to be a good link between this and the type variety in the inflorescence condition, having upper flowers in groups and the lower solitary.
