Perennial herb, 6-16 cm high with slender, branched and scaly rhizome. Stems few in number, erect. Leaves in basal rosette or on upper part of the stem, middle part of the stem leafless. Leaves 0.5-1.7 x 0.5-2.0 cm, ovate-subreniform, obtuse, cordate-subcordate, crenate, pubescent, 4-5-veined; petiole 0.7-3.0 cm long, pubescent. Stipules 2, opposite, free, lanceolate, 0.5-0.8 x 0.1-0.3 cm, slight-distinctly fimbriate, hairy, acuminate. Peduncle pubescent, c. 5.0 cm long; bracteoles 2, opposite, above middle, 0.2-0.5 x 0.05 cm, lanceolate, acuminate, entire. Flowers medium-large, 1.2-2.0 cm long, purplish blue-violet, turning white at time of falling. Sepals 0.4-0.7 - 0.1-0.2 cm, lanceolate, acute, entire, slightly pubescent, mostly towards base, margin membranous. Petals oblanceolate, obtuse, 0.8-1.2 x 0.4-0.6 cm, margin entire, cuneate, purple striped; lateral petal 1.0-1.5 x 0.5-0.8 cm. Spur (4-) 5-6 mm long, obtuse, straight. Ovary ovate, 1.5-2.5 x 0.8-1.25 mm; style 4.0 mm long, slightly papillose or glabrous at summit; stigmatic orifice turned upward. Capsule not seen.
