Didymodon cylindricus var. gemmiparus Schimper
Irregular, multicellular brown or red-brown gemmae present on adaxial surface of the leaf costa or in soil, borne on rhizoids.
Vertical dolomite; Mo.; Mexico; Cuba, Haiti, Brazil, Europe and India.
The propaguliferous variant of this species (R. H. Zander 1978) has been found in Douglas Co., Missouri (P. M. Eckel 2000) on vertical dolomite, and should be looked for elsewhere in the range of the flora. In Mexico, it is known from eight states (Zander 1994).
