Plants moderate sized and stiff, capitulum moderate-sized and conspicuously stellate; golden-brown to brown; without a metallic lustre when dry. Stems pale brown; superficial cortical cells often with one pore per cell. Stem leaves spatulate, 0.95--1.1 × 0.85--1 mm, lacerate across the broad flat apex and strongly broadened at the base; hyaline cells rhomboid and mostly septate, often multiply septate along the margins, efibrillose. Branches unranked, terete. Branch fascicles with 1--2 speading and 1--2 pendent branches. Branch leaves ovate, 1.2--1.3 mm, slightly concave,straight; apex involute; hyaline cells on convex surface in apical region with small round to elliptic pores along the commissures, grading to large round pores at the base; on the concave surface with large round pores in the apical and side regions. Sexual condition unknown. Sporophytes unknown.

Forming dense carpets and low hummocks in poor fen tundra peatlands; Que., N.W.T., Yukon; Alaska.
