Herbs 6–12 cm. Leaves: petiole 5–30 mm, winged, glabrous or pubescent; blade ovate to suborbiculate, 3–7(–9.5) × 2–6.5 cm, thick-textured, base truncate to obtuse or cuneate, apex acute to obtuse, surfaces glabrous or densely pubescent, often glaucous. Peduncles 2.5–6 cm, glabrous or densely pubescent. Pedicels 7.5–12.5 mm, glabrous or densely pubescent. Flowers: calyx lobes ovate-lanceolate to linear, 5–7.5 mm, glabrous or eglandular-pubescent; corolla sparsely eglandular-pubescent, glabrous or eglandular-pubescent abaxially, glabrous or papillate adaxially, not clearly differentiated into tube and throat, 15–28 mm, lobes spreading, obovate-oblong, 4–9(–12) × 3–5 mm. Follicles 3.5–7 × 0.3–0.5 cm. Seeds 6–9 × 2.5–3.8 mm. 2n = 14.
Varieties 3 (3 in the flora): w United States. Three varieties of Cycladenia humilis are recognized based on morphological features and geographic distribution; however, two unpublished studies (M. P. Last 2009; H. K. Brabazon 2015) have noted inconsistencies between the morphological and genetic data and suggest a need for further study.
