1c. Cycladenia humilis Bentham var. venusta (Eastwood) Woodson ex Munz, Man. S. Calif. Bot. 379. 1935.
[E]

Cycladenia venusta Eastwood, Bull. Torrey Bot. Club 29: 77. 1902

Stems glabrous. Leaves glabrous. Corollas pubescent abaxially or marginally with hairs that are not interwoven, sparsely pubescent adaxially, lobes 8–12 mm.

Flowering summer; fruiting summer. Talus and scree slopes and other gravelly sites; 1500–2500 m; Calif.

Populations of var. venusta are known from the San Gabriel Mountains (Los Angeles and San Bernardino counties) and the Santa Lucia Range (Monterey County), although these latter plants are genetically intermediate between varieties humilis and venusta and may be the result of hybridization between the varieties (H. K. Brabazon 2015). Collections from eastern California (Inyo County) that have been previously assigned to var. venusta are here treated as belonging to var. jonesii.
