Culms not dilated directly proximal to flower, 0.1--0.3 mm diam. . Inflorescences: bracts subtending inflorescence 1--2, rounded to obtusely ovate, 1--2 mm. Capsules usually longer than tepals. n = 16.
Flowering and fruiting spring--early fall. Various damp open habitats including vernal depressions, streambeds, swales in sagebrush flats, forest clearing and alpine meadows; 400--3200 m; Calif., Idaho, Nev., Oreg., Utah, Wash.
