Distal cauline leaves moderately to densely silky. Phyllaries moderately to densely silky. 2n = 8.
Flowering Aug–Nov(–Dec). Sandy and loamy soils, roadsides, oak scrub, pine flatwoods, fields; 0–600 m; Ala., Del., Fla., Ga., Ky., La., Md., Mass., Miss., N.J., N.Y., N.C., R.I., S.C., Tenn., Va.
Variety concolor is found on the Coastal Plains east of the Mississippi River and on the Piedmont Plateau; it reaches southern New England. Aster concolor forma lasiocaulis Fernald is not recognized.
