Vines or shrubs, sometimes perennial herbs, often scandent, with opposite or verticillate, linear to ovate, entire to lobed, sometimes glandular leaves. Head arrangement variable. Involucral bracts four, persistent. Receptacle flat. Florets 4, white, sometimes pink, funnel-shaped or differentiated into tube and limb, glabrous, finely pilose, or glandular, sometimes papillose inside. Style base and shaft enlarged, often smooth; style branch appendages linear, papillose or hirtellous. Achenes 4-10-ribbed, sometimes glandular or setose. Pappus of many scabrid bristles.

Pantropical, ca. 430 species; one species in Taiwan.
