Circaea x hybrida Hand.-Mazz.
Plants 2-150 cm tall, pubescent, usually densely so, with long, patent soft hairs, falcately recurved hairs, and capitate and clavate-tipped glandular hairs. Rhizomes non-tuberous. Leaves 4-13 cm long, 2.3-11 cm wide, narrowly to very broadly ovate, base very broadly cuneate to broadly rounded or truncate or, more commonly, cordate, apex short acuminate, margins denticulate to subentire. Flowering pedicels pubescent, perpendicular to raceme axis, flowers closely spaced, opening before elongation of raceme axis. Nectary wholly within floral tube and inconspicuous. Fruit bilocular, 2-seeded, obliquely obovoid to lenticular, dorsally flattened, obliquely rounded or truncate to pedicel, with low, corky thickenings along margins and between locules, without prominent sulci. Fruiting pedicel and mature fruit, 4.4-7 mm long. 2n=22. Flowers Jun-Aug; fruit Jul-Sep.

Distribution: SE Siberia, Korea; Japan; across China to Assam, India; Nepal; NW India to Kashmir and Pakistan. Well drained soils in mixed deciduous, rarely boreal, forests; near sea level to 3,500 m.
