Languas uraiensis (Hayata) Sasaki, Trans. Nat. Hist. Soc. Form. 14: 86. 1924.

Plant 2.5-3.5 m. Leaves sessile to petiolate, petiole 0-2.5 cm long; blade 70-105 × 9-20 cm, oblong to oblanceolate, tip acuminate, base oblique, membranous, glabrous on both sides except for the margin; ligule 1 cm long, entire to bilobed, coriaceous, hairy on outer surface, usually split at lateral veins. Inflorescence racemose, erect, with spinous hair, flower-bearing part 25-35 cm long, sometimes lower rachilla with 2 flowers. Flowers pedicellate, pedicel 0.2-0.5 cm long; bracteole white, tip pink, folded around the bud, base hairy, 4-5 cm long, deciduous or persistent; calyx white, tip pink, tubular, 3-3.5 cm long, shortly 3-lobed and deeply split unilaterally, minutely pubescent on outer surface; corolla white, tube 1.2 cm long, lobes oblong, outer surface sparsely pubescent, margin ciliate, dorsal lobe 4 × 3 cm, laterals 3.5 × 1.8 cm; labellum dark yellow, triangular, involute, 4.8 × 5.2 cm, with red stripes and spots at the center, apex emarginate; staminodes linear, 0.4 cm long, with red stripes; anther 2.2 cm long; filament band-form, 1.4 cm long; stigma funnel-form, apex densely hairy; style slender, 3.5-5 cm long; epigynous glands massive, united on one side, yellow, massive, 0.4 cm long; ovary greenish, pubescent, 1.0 × 0.8 cm. Fruits capsular, orange, globose, 2.3-3.5 × 2.5-3.0 cm, smooth, with spinous hair. Seeds 60-120; aril white, membranous
