玉山飛蓬

Perennial herbs, rhizomes thick. Stems several from base, erect, 6-10 cm tall, hispidulous, simple or branching upward, subscapose. Radical leaves in rosettes, linear-spatulate to spatulate, 2-6 cm long, 4-10 mm wide, apex obtuse, base narrowed, margins sparsely mucronulate to entire, hispidulous on both surfaces, sometimes nearly glabrous, margins ciliate with short hairs; cauline leaves linear or oblong-lanceolate, 1-3 cm long, 2-6 mm wide, apex obtuse, base slightly broader, margins entire, hispidulous or glabrate, ciliate with short hairs; upper leaves gradually smaller. Heads few, solitary or few terminating subscapose stem, 2-2.6 cm across (ligules included). Involucre bowl-shaped, 5-7 mm long, 11-15 mm across, bracts 3 seriate, linear-lanceolate, acuminate, densely villous, inner bracts 7-8 mm long, outer bracts slightly shorter than inner, reddish-purple or green and apically tinged reddish-purple. Ray florets numerous ca. 3-seriate, corolla ligulate, ligules 4-7 m long, ca. 1.5 mm wide, tube ca. 2.5 mm long, slightly puberulous, white to red-purple. Tubular pistillate florets lacking ligules, rarely mixed among ray florets. Disc florets numerous, corolla tubular, yellowish, 2-3 mm long, shortly 5-lobed; lobes sometimes red-purple. Achenes oblong, compressed, ca. 2 mm long, 0.5 mm wide, pale brown. Pappus 3-4 mm long, scanty, white or reddish. Fl. Jul-Sep. Chromosome number, 2n = 18 (Peng & Hsu, 1978).

Endemic; on high mountains 3,400-3,900 m.
