Herbs robust. Stems ascending, leafless toward base, densely fine tawny patent-setose, internodes abbreviated. Petiole 2-8 cm; leaf blade elliptic to broadly elliptic, 5.5-14.5 × 2.5-7 cm, adaxially densely fine spreading setose, abaxially sparsely fine spreading setose, densely so on veins, base broadly cuneate to rounded-cordate, margin irregularly undulate-serrate, apex acute. Verticillasters many flowered, globose, ca. 2.5 cm in diam. in fruit; bracteoles subulate to linear, ca. 8 mm, hairy outside, glabrous inside. Pedicel short. Fruiting calyx tubular-campanulate, to 1.1 cm, finely bristly outside, conspicuously 5-veined; teeth broadly triangular, ca. 3 mm, apex long acuminate. Corolla not seen. Nutlets black-brown, triquetrous, oblong, ca. 6 × 2.5-2.8 mm, rounded, base attenuate, glabrous. Fr. Nov.
