Plants annual, 40-60 cm tall, glabrous. Stem erect, robust, succulent, simple, lower nodes swollen, with many fibrous roots. Leaves alternate; petiole 1-2 cm; leaf blade gray-green abaxially, dark green adaxially, ovate or ovate-elliptic, 5-13 × 3-5.5 cm, membranous, abaxially glabrous, adaxially sparsely strigose, lateral veins 5-7 pairs, curved, base broadly cuneate, margin crenate-serrate, teeth mucronulate, apex acuminate. Inflorescences in upper leaf axils, racemose, large, 2- or 3(or 4)-flowered; peduncles shorter than leaves. Pedicels 1.5-2.5 cm, slightly elongate at fruiting, bracteate at base; bracts persistent, broadly ovate, 2-3 mm, apex mucronulate. Flowers spreading, yellow, 3.5-4 cm in diam. Lateral sepals 2, obliquely ovate or suborbicular, 3-3.5 mm, 3-5-veined, base inequilateral, apex mucronulate. Lower sepal deeply saccate, 3.2-3.5 cm deep, abruptly constricted into an incurved spur ca. 1 cm; mouth oblique, 2-2.2 cm, tip acuminate. Upper petal cucullate, elliptic-orbicular, ca. 2.2 × 1.4-1.5 cm, abaxial midvein conspicuously thickened, cristate, crista apically with a long cornu (horn) ca. 1 cm; lateral united petals clawed, 2.8-3 cm, 2-lobed; basal lobes broadly ovate, apex acute; distal lobes dolabriform; auricle inflexed, orbicular. Filaments linear, ca. 9 mm, apex swollen; anthers ovoid, apex acute. Ovary erect, fusiform, ca. 7 mm. Capsule (immature) clavate, 1.8-2 cm, rostellate. Fl. Oct.
