Plants annual, flaccid, to 90 cm or more. Stem prostrate or procumbent, with few fibrous roots at nodes, many branched. Leaves alternate; petiole 5-10 mm, slender; leaf blade ovate or ovate-lanceolate, rarely ovate-orbicular, (1-)1.5-3 × 0.8-1.8 cm, membranous, often with 1 or 2 pairs of fibrous-stipitate glands at basal margin, abaxially sparsely pilose on veins, adaxially shiny, lateral veins 5 or 6 pairs, base gradually attenuate into petiole, margin crenate-serrulate, apex slightly acute or obtuse, mucronulate. Inflorescences in upper leaf axils, 1-flowered; peduncles often longer than leaves. Pedicels bracteate above middle; bracts persistent, linear-lanceolate, ca. 4 mm, pilose on midvein, apex long acuminate. Flowers purple, large, 3-4 cm deep. Lateral sepals 2, broadly ovate or ovate-orbicular, 4-5 × 3-3.5 mm, subleathery, sparsely pilose on midvein, 3-veined, base rounded or subcordate, apex reflexed, long mucronulate. Lower sepal purple striate, narrowly funnelform, limb ca. 1.5 cm deep, narrowed into a curved, 2-fid spur ca. as long as limb. Upper petal suborbicular, ca. 1.1 × 1.4 cm, margin undulate, apex retuse, abaxial midvein cristate apically; lateral united petals ± clawed, 1.4-1.5 cm, 2-lobed; basal lobes orbicular; distal lobes broadly dolabriform, ca. 2 × as long as basal lobes, apex rounded or obtuse; auricle inflexed. Filaments broadly linear; anthers acute. Ovary fusiform. Capsule linear, ca. 2.3 cm. Seeds 7 or 8, brown, subglobose, ca. 2 mm, smooth. Fl. Sep-Nov.
