Plants annual, 15-40 cm tall. Stem striate when dry, branched. Leaves alternate, petiolate; leaf blade ovate, ovate-oblong, or ovate-lanceolate, 4-10 × 1-3(-3.5) cm, thinly membranous, often with 1 or 2 pairs of setose glands, glabrous, lateral veins 6-8 pairs, base slightly acute or subrounded, margin coarsely crenate, apex caudate-acuminate. Inflorescences axillary, 1-flowered; peduncles shorter than leaves. Pedicels bracteate above middle; bracts persistent, ovate, 3-3.5 mm, apex acuminate. Flowers spreading, purple or pink-purple, 3.5-4 cm deep. Lateral sepals 2, broadly ovate, ca. 9 × 11-12 mm, thinly papery, subinequilateral, base rounded or subcordate, margin 4- or 5-denticulate on one side, apex cuspidate. Lower sepal purple striate, funnelform, 1.7-1.8 cm deep, narrowed into a curved spur; spur 1.4-1.5 cm, 2-lobed. Upper petal orbicular, ca. 1.3 cm in diam., apex rostellate, abaxial midvein narrowly carinate, cristate at middle; lateral united petals ± clawed, 2.4-2.5 cm; basal lobes ovate, apex acute, with a long filamentous hair; distal lobes orbicular-dolabriform, ca. 2.5 × as long as basal lobes, apex obtuse, with a filamentous long hair; auricle inflexed, rounded. Filaments linear, 4-5 mm; anthers obtuse. Ovary erect, fusiform. Capsule (immature) linear, 1.2-1.3 cm. Fl. Jun-Aug.
