Plants annual, 30-70 cm tall, glabrous, with few supporting roots. Stem erect, branched, naked in lower part. Leaves alternate, crowded in upper part of stem and subsessile, lower leaves with petiole ca. 4.5 cm; leaf blade pale green abaxially, dark green adaxially, ovate or ovate-lanceolate, 4-17 × 2.5-5 cm, membranous, with stipitate glands, adaxially sparsely brown pilose, setose between teeth, lateral veins 5-10 pairs, base narrowed, margin densely crenate, apex subcaudate-acuminate. Inflorescences in terminal leaf axils, racemose, many flowered; peduncles overtopping or ca. as long as leaves, 7-15 cm, slender, rigid. Pedicels fibrous, 1.2-2 cm, elongate at fruiting, bracteate at base; bracts persistent, lanceolate or setose, 1-3 mm. Flowers sulfur-colored, 1.5-2 cm deep. Lateral sepals 2, green, obliquely ovate or nearly sigmoid, 2-4 mm, apex mucronulate. Lower sepal navicular, ca. 8 mm, gradually narrowed into a rectangular spur ca. 3.5 cm; tip acuminate. Upper petal subtetragonous-orbicular, ca. 6 mm, apex emarginate, abaxial midvein carinate; lateral united petals not clawed, 2-lobed; basal lobes orbicular, short; distal lobes broadly or narrowly dolabriform, ca. 2 × as long as basal lobes, apex obtuse; auricle suborbicular. Filaments linear; anthers orbicular, small. Capsule fusiform, 2.5-3 cm. Seeds many (ca. 10), brown, orbicular, ca. 3 mm in diam. Fl. and fr. Sep-Oct.
