Plants medium-sized, up to 2.5 cm high, dark green to reddish brown, in dense tufts. Stems erect, branched. Leaves imbricately appressed when dry, spreading when moist, oblong-ovate, narrowly obtuse or blunt at the apex; margins entire, recurved; costa ending in a few cells below the apex, dorsally papillose; upper cells rounded-quadrate to elliptic, rather thick-walled, with rough papillae on each cell; basal cells slightly differentiated and larger. Capsules with distinct neck; opercula conic, with short and blunt beak.

Habitat: on rocks in mountains, occasionally on tree bases; Distribution: China and India.
