4. Bellibarbula Chen, Hedwigia. 80:222. 1941.

Plants small to medium-sized, yellowish green to dark green or reddish brown, in low dense tufts. Stems erect, irregularly branched; central strand present. Leaves appressed, incurved when dry, weakly spreading when moist, oblong-ovate, narrowly obtuse or gradually acute to blunt at the apex; margins entire, recurved; costa strong, ending at the apex or a few cells below, with rough papillae on the dorsal surface, in cross section two stereid bands present; upper laminal cells rounded quadrate to short-rectangular, thin-walled or incrassate, papillae small, simple or bifid; basal cells slightly larger, irregularly rectangular, incrassate to rather thick-walled, mostly with large papillae. Dioicous. Perichaetial leaves differentiated, convolute-sheathing at the base, shortly acuminate, cells long-rhombic, smooth. Setae elongate; capsules erect, elliptic-cylindric, with distinct neck; peristome teeth absent; annuli differentiated, of highly vesiculose cells; opercula short- to long-rostrate. Calyptrae cucullate, smooth. Spores spherical, brownish, slightly papillose.

The genus consists of two species, and both occur in China.
