China: Yunnan, Li-jiang Co., Handel-Mazzetti 4321 (holotype H).

Plants small, 5–10 mm high, yellowish green to reddish brown, in loose or dense tufts. Stems erect, often branched, radiculose below. Leaves imbricately appressed when dry, spreading when moist, broadly oblong-ovate, gradually acute at the apex; margins entire, recurved; costa ending at the apex; upper cells rounded-quadrate to rounded-hexagonal, thin to moderately thick-walled, with a few rounded papillae on each cell; basal cells not much differentiated to short-rectangular. Perichaetial leaves enlarged, highly sheathing at the base, involute above. Setae slender, ca. 5 mm long; capsules erect, short-cylindric, opercula obliquely long-rostrate.

Type. India: Assam.

Habitat: on rocks or soil in alpine regions; Distribution: China, India, and North America.
