Plants small to relatively large, sometimes slenderly long, 1–3(–5) cm high, sordid green or olive green above, dark brown below, in dense tufts. Stems erect, or ascending, simple or branched, often curved to one side, radiculose below. Leaves erect to appressed when dry, erect-spreading to homomallous when moist, 4–7 mm long, lanceolate, gradually tapered to a concolorous or hyaline hairpoint; margins plane or somewhat involute in the middle part, entire; costa brownish, occupying ½ the leaf base width, weakly to distinctly ridged at back in the upper part, ending in a hyaline hairpoint, with dorsal stereid band in transverse section; upper cells elongate-oval, strongly incrassate, somewhat porose; basal cells quadrate to short-rectangular, thick-walled; alar cells forming well marked auricles, inflated, hexagonal, thin-walled, brownish. Dioicous. Setae ca. 7 mm long, straight when dry, cygneous when moist; capsule ovoid to short-cylindric, ca. 0.8 mm wide; peristome teeth divided to the middle, vertically striate below. Spores not seen.
