Plants small to medium-sized, up to 2 cm high, comose foliate, green to yellowish green, shiny, in compact tufts. Stems erect, simple or branched, somewhat radiculose at base; central strand weakly developed; small, hooked brood leaves sometimes present in the axils of the comal tufts at the stem tips. Leaves rigid, erect or appressed, slightly flexuose to falcate-secund when dry, erect-patent when moist, lanceolate from a narrowly oblong-ovate base, gradually narrowed to a long subulate acumen; margins plane or slightly involute above, entire or serrulate only at the apex; costa widest about in the middle, gradually narrowed toward leaf base, occupying 1/3 – 2/3 the leaf base width, shortly excurrent in a non-hyaline tip, smooth or slightly ridged at back in the upper part, with only dorsal stereid band in transverse section; upper cells rectangular or somewhat rhomboidal, thick-walled; basal cells rectangular, thin-walled, hyaline, becoming narrower at the margins; alar cells slightly differentiated, only somewhat inflated, thin-walled, hyaline. Dioicous. Perichaetial leaves sheathing at base. Setae straight when dry, cygneous when moist, ca. 10 mm long, yellowish brown; capsules erect, ellipsoidal, symmetric, not contracted below the mouth; opercula obliquely long-rostrate, ca. ¾ the total length of urns; annuli in 2 rows of cells; peristome teeth divided to the middle, hyaline at tips, cross-striate at base. Calyptrae cucullate, entire at base. Spores 10–15 µm in diameter, brownish green.

Type. Indonesia: Sumbawa, Zollinger 1184.

Chinese specimens examined: HAINAN: Bawangling (Mt.), Reese 17567 (LAF, MO). SICHUAN: Yan-yuan (Yen-yuen) Co., Handel-Mazzetti 2848 (H). YUNNAN: between Yanggai and Hwadung, Handel-Mazetti 4957 (H).

Habitat: on soil or rocks; Distribution: China, Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, and Hawaii.
