Pottia sinensi-truncata C. Müll., Nuovo Giorn. Bot. Ital., n. ser. 5: 174. 1898. Type. China: Shaanxi (Schen-si), Zu-lu, Oct. 1896, P. J. Giraldi 2203 (isotype H). Pottia truncatula (With.) Buse, Musci Neerl. Spec. Exic. 67. 1858. Bryum truncatulum With., Syst. Arr. Brit. Pl. (ed. 4) 3: 801. 1801.

Plants very small, 3–6 mm high, in dense tufts. Stems erect, simple, rarely branched. Leaves crowded at the stem tips, ovate to ovate-lanceolate, shortly apiculate; margins entire, plane or sometimes crenulate near the apex; costa excurrent in a short awn; upper leaf cells short-rectangular to hexagonal, thin-walled, smooth; basal cells rectangular, smooth, hyaline. Autoicous. Setae elongate, 3–8 mm long; capsules erect, broadly obovoid; opercula conic-rostrate, persistent with columella; peristome teeth absent.

Type. Europe.

YUNNAN: Kun-ming City, Z.-M. Li 178 (HYUB).

Habitat: on rocks or soil walls in shaded and moist places; Distribution: China, Japan, western Asia, Russia, Europe, North and South America, and northern Africa.
