Biennial or perennial herbs with hispid parts. Leaves alternate. Flowers in terminal panicles or thyrses. Calyx up to 1/2-cleft, accrescent in fruit. Corolla tube long; throat with well developed scales. Stamens 5, unequal (4 small and 1 large), subexserted. Style slender. Nutlets 4, compressed, smooth.
About 6 species, S. W. and C. Asia. Represented in Pakistan by 1 species.
