Climbing evergreen shrubs. Leaves opposite, bi-foliolate, with a terminal leaflet modified into a simple tendril. Flowers axillary or in panicles. Calyx campanulate, truncate, obscurely 5-toothed. Corolla 5-lobed. Stamens 4, included. Disk short. Capsule elongated, compressed, prickly. Seeds many, winged.
9 species in Tropical America. Represented in Pakistan by 1 cultivated species.
