Herbs. Leaves alternate, entire, exstipulate. Flowers in short racemes or cymes, regular. Sepals and petals united at the bases. Stamens equal, attached at the base of the short corolla tube. Ovary 2-locular; ovules many; styles 2, distinct. Capsule globose to ovoid.
A genus of about 20 tropical species in America, Africa and Asia. Represented in Pakistan by 1 species.
