    Decumbent herbs, simple or branched; roots fibrous, sometimes tuberous. Leaves alternate or radical, sometimes apparently fascicled below the inflorescence, usually linear or oblong. Inflorescence paniculate, lax, axillary or terminal. Sepals 3, membranous, free. Petals 3, free, obovate, subequal. Fertile stamens 3, antisepalous, alternating with 3 (rarely 0-2) staminodes; filaments bearded; staminodes hastate or 3-lobed; fertile anthers dithecous. Ovary 2-3-loculed, sessile, 1-2- several ovules. Capsuled subequally 3-valved, 1-several seeded; seeds rugose or pitted.

    About 50 species, chiefly Asian and African; represented in Pakistan by 1 species only.
