Evergreen trees. Branches whorled, with peg‑like processes on which leaves' were borne; long shoots with leaves. Leaves needle like, quadrangular. Female cones pendulous. Seeds small, winged.
50 species, N. temperate, especially E. Asia. Represented in Pakistan by 1 species.
