Shrub. Stems tall, leafy, with a dense tomentose eglandular indumentum, branched. Leaves ovate, not divided, crenate, petiolate. Flowers borne in shortly pedunculate verticillasters in axils of upper leaves. Bracts subulate. Calyx large, not bilabiate, with a prominently ribbed narrow cylindrical tube and oblong-elliptic lobes as long as tube; tube bearded within. Corolla bilabiate, scarcely or not longer than calyx lobes; upper lip straight, entire; lower 3-lobed, spreading; tube annulate within. Stamens 4, didynamous, anterior pair longer; thecae bilocular, glabrous, diverging. Style bifid with subequal short subulate lobes. Nutlets ovoid, smooth truncate, rounded.
Monotypic. With some affinities to Ballota and Otostegia.
