Small, ash-grey undershrubs. Leaves fascicled, sessile, base pulvinate, linear to narrow cylindrical, fleshy, stipulate, glabrous. Inflorescence axillary or terminal, densely crowded cymose head. Flowers sessile, perigynous; bracteate, bracts sepaloid, shorter than the flowers. Sepals 5, free, unequal, ovate to ovate-oblong, coriaceous, margin fimbriate membranous, apex sharp pointed mucronate, recurved. Petals 5, free, oblong, membranous, whitish, shorter than the sepals. Stamens 5, free, opposite to sepals and laterally fused with petals at rim of re¬ceptacle; anthers ovate-oblong. Carpels 2, syncarpous; ovary stipitate, unilocular, ovules 2, amphitropous; style short, bifid, stigmas 2. Fruit membranous indehis¬cent one seeded utricle, covered by persistent calyx. Seed ovate, compressed; embryo curved.

2 species; distributed on coasts of Sudan, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Iran and West Pakistan.
