Much branched, suffrutescent undershrub, 45-60 cm tall. Stem and branches ash grey, twisted and knotted at the nodes, young branches somewhat less minutely pubescent. Leaves 5-10 mm long, blade linear-oblong to semicy¬lindrical, obtuse, mucronate, glabrous; stipules minute, interpetiolar, scarious with ciliate margins. Inflorescence pedunculate densely crowded cymose head. Flowers pentamerous, bisexual, yellowish green; bracteate, bracts similar to and half the size of sepals. Sepals basally somewhat connate, lobes free, unequal, 3-4 mm long, 2-2.5 mm wide, ovate-oblong, margins fimbriate membranous, apex sharp pointed mucronate, recurved. Petals 2.5-3 mm long, 1-1.5 mm wide, oblong, slightly broader at the apex, dirty white. Stamens inserted on rim of re¬ceptacle, alternate with petals, filaments dilated and united at the base to form a ring, subperigynous, anthers dorsifixed. Ovary stipitate, free, globose, unilocular, 2-ovuled, ovules amphitropous, placentation free central. Fruit 1 seeded, mem¬branous indehiscent utricle enclosed by persistent calyx, ovoid-subglobose. Embryo curved, radicle inferior.
