Perennial herb. Leaf alternate, palmately trifoliolate; stipules free, foliaceous. Inflorescence a terminal or leaf-opposed raceme. Flower rather large, yellow or rarely purple. Bract foliaceous. Calyx campanulate, teeth or lobes subequal. Vexillum subequal to the wings and keel. Stamens free. Ovary subsessile or shortly stipitate, ovules numerous, style incurved, stigma terminal. Fruit linear, oblong, straight or incurved, continuous within.
A genus with 15 species; distributed in North America, Siberia, China, Japan and the Himalayas.
