Thermopsis barbata Royle, Ill.Bot.Himal.Mount. 192.t.32.f. 1. 1835. Baker in Hook.f., Fl.Brit.Ind.2:62.1876.

Root woody, stem c. 30-50 cm, branched, mostly densely pilose, stipules foliaceous, lateral c. 1.5-3.8 cm long, c. 0.5-1.5 cm broad, elliptic, entire, subglabrous to densely hirsute. Leaf sessile, trifoliolate, leaflet c. 1.5-3.8 cm long, c. 0.5-1.5 cm broad, lanceolate to elliptic, entire, subglabrous to densely hirsute. Inflorescence racemose, 1-3 flowers at each node; pedicel c. 1.8-2.3 cm long, pilose. Calyx c. 17 mm long, densely pilose, teeth c. 10 mm long. Corolla deep purple. Vexillum c. 21-27 mm long. Fruit stipe c. 9 mm long; fruit c. 3-3.5 cm long, c. 10-11 mm broad, elliptic, pilose when young, glabrescent, 1-6-seeded.

Distribution: Kashmir; India (N. Punjab, Kumaon); Nepal; Bhutan; Tibet.
