RUBINA AKHTER
Small trees or shrubs, deciduous or evergreen. Leaves sometimes with stellate hairs. Flowers in axillary or terminal corymbs or panicled cymes. Calyx 5-toothed, lobes, short, persistent. Corolla regular, tubular; campanulate or rotate, equally 5-lobed, lobes spreading. Stamens 5, inserted near the base of corolla tube. Ovary 1-3 locular; style very short, stigma 3-lobed. Fruit a drupe, compressed,1-seeded.
A genus of about 200 species distributed in temperate and subtropical regions of Asia, N. America and Malaysia. Represented in Pakistan by 6 species; 2 species are reported to be cultivated.
