Perennial 20-80 cm high, much branched. Stem smooth or indistinctly striate, sometimes purplish, glabrous or with glands. Leaves with usually short or without petioles, 2-3-pinnate, leaflets 2-18 x 1.5-15 mm, ovate or obovate, base round or subcordate, profoundly incised-lobate or crenate or dentate, lobes of the last order sometimes denticulate, but more often entire, usually glandular, green on both sides, undersurface glabrous or slightly puberulous. Inflorescence composed of several ± loose racemes or panicles, leafy, pyramidal. Bracts usually 3-lobate, compound or undivided. Pedicels (1-) 10-30 mm, usually long, slender, patent, straight or indistinctly curved downwards. Sepals 2-4 x 1-2 mm, elliptic, obtuse or subacute. Stamens 10-15, filaments 2-8 mm, filiform, whitish, anthers long pointed, yellowish, 1-3 mm long. Carpels sessile or very shortly stalked, 3-5 x 2 mm, obovate-falcate, compressed, with very prominent branched anastomosing (4-6) ribs. Style short, straight, persistent.
