  • Euphorbia pilulifera sensu Boiss.

    An erect-ascending hispid sparingly-branched annual herb up to 60 cm; hairs multicellular, drying yellow. Petioles 1-3 mm long. Leaf-blades rhombic-ovate to rhombic-lanceolate, 1-5 x 0.5-1.8 cm, subacute or obtuse, asymmetrically cuneate or rounded-cuneate at the base, serrulate at least in the upper part, with c. 2 pairs lateral nerves from near the base running up the blade, bright green, often purplish-tinged, above, pale green beneath. Stipules subulate, 1-2 mm long. Cyathia aggregated together into dense axillary pedunculate clusters 0.5-1 cm across; peduncle 0.5-1 cm long. cyathial glands and their appendages minute. Fruits sharply trigonous, c. 1 x 1 mm, smooth, adpressed-pubescent. Seeds 0.8 x 0.5 mm, ovoid-quadrangular, with a few shallow transverse ridges on each face, grey when mature, otherwise pinkish, ecarunculate.

    Syntypes: India, specimen nos. 630/5-7 in Hb. Linn. (LINN).

    Distribution: A pantropical weed; in grassy plots & by roadsides, and in flooded areas near cultivation, near sea-level to 4500'/1370 m.
