Aphanochilus eriostachyus Benth.Elsholtzia eriostachya var. pusilla (Benth.) Hook. f.Elsholtzia pusilla Benth.
Of identical habit, leaf form, indumentum and inflorescence structure to the previous species, but: flowering calyx c. 1 mm, increasing and ± inflating in fruit to 3 mm long and 2 mm wide, flowers yellow c. 2.1 mm, fruiting inflorescence up to 0.8 cm wide and nutlets c. 1.1 x 0.5 mm.
Types: [Wallich Cat. 15551 [India, Garhwal] Badrinath, R. Blinkworth (K). Nepal, Wallich (E, K).
Distribution: Pakistan, Kashmir to Bhutan, Tibet, India.
Press (Bull. Brit. Mus., Nat. Hist, 10, 1: 70. 1982) placed Elsholtzia densa and Elsholtzia eriostachya in the bitypic sect. Platyelasma (Briq.) Press characterized by the inflated fruiting calyces.
