Herb, erect to ascending, up to 1.5 m, glabrous, branches spreading. Leaf spur 0-4 mm long. Cladodes (1) 2-5 (-8) per fascicle, 10-50 x 0.3-0.7 mm, linear, subulated, glabrous, green, subterete, acute. Flowers 1-2 per fascicle. Pedicels 10-22 mm long, articulate above the middle. Male flower: perianth 6-7 mm, yellowish green, anthers 1.2-1.5 mm. Berry red, 5-8 mm in diameter.

Fl.Per.: June-July.

Type: Persia borealis ad radices montis Demavend prope pagum Ask, Kotschy 365 (K).

Distribution: Iran, Afghanistan, Turkey, Uzbekistan, Tadzhikistan, Kazakhstan, Russia (European).

Browicz (l. c.) has stated that ‘Stainton 3040 (BM) is a hybrid between Asparagus monophyllus x neglectus.
