Rootstock tuberous with long spikes of very fragrant flowers. Stem short; basal leaves well-developed, long, narrow; upper leaves short, reduced, bright green, reddish near the base. Flowers in long simple terminal racemes with 4-6 flowers, waxy white, borne in pairs. Perianth tubular or funnel-shaped, segments short, subequal, curved. Stamens 6, filaments attached on the upper part of the perianth tube. Ovary 3-celled, free at the apex, stigmas 3, ovate, falcate.
Distribution: Mexico and Trinidad.
Commonly cultivated for its fragrant flowers.
