A medium sized tree with dimorphic leaves, longer leaves opposite, linear, 5‑8 mm long; shorter, leaves imbricate, appressed, obtuse. Fruit globose, brownishviolet. Seeds 2‑3.
Occasionally planted in the plains. The wood is close grained, durable and aromatic; Distribution: A native of China. Cultivated elsewhere.
