    10-35 cm tall herb. Stem woody and much branched near the base, older branches glabrous, younger ones pubescent. Leaves opposite, superposed, subsessile or shortly petiolate, blade elliptic or elliptic-rhombic, tapering into petiole, 5-30 mm long, 3-15 mm wide, acute, mucronate, revolute, somewhat scabrous pubescent; stipules 2-3 mm long. Peduncle hairy, 5-15 mm long, fibriform. Flowers greenish white, bracteate; bracts yellowish-red, feathery. Sepals free, 4-5 mm long, 1.5-2.5 mm wide, hairy, margins membranous fim briate, slightly hooded, shortly awned behind apex, persistent. Petals linear-oblong to oblanceolate, c. 2 mm long, white. Stamens 5, filaments c. 2.5 mm long, lanceolate, anthers dorsifixed. Ovary ovoid-lanceolate, attenuate to style, 1-loculed with 1 basal orthrotropous ovule. Fruit 1 seeded, indehiscent utricle enclosed by persistent calyx and surrounded by feathery, yellowish red bracts with upright acicular segments. Seed compressed towards chalaza, testa mem¬branous, endosperm scanty, embryo straight.

    Type: “Planta surattensis & Malabarica, Trifolii Lagopi capitulis Garzin Herb.” (G. not seen).

    Distribution: Dry arid regions of West Pakistan, Iran, Iraq and S. Arabia.
