An ornamental plant. Flowers used in scent-making in France. Perianth pale-grey to violet blue, rarely white (in cultivation rose and pale yellow). Widely cultivated for ornament and naturalized in the Mediterranean region, Iraq, possibly elsewhere. It is being included on the authority of R. R. Stewart (l.c.), who has stated that “This common spring garden plant is cultivated, especially in Kashmir”.
