Jasminum latifolium Roxb., Fl. Ind. ed. Carey and Wall. 1:93. 1820.

  • Jasminum arborescens var. latifolium (Roxb.) C.B. Clarke

Shrub twining. Leaves usually large, up to 18 cm long and 12 cm broad, petiole up to 2.5 cm long. Calyx teeth sometimes up to 4 mm long. Otherwise the same characters as in Jasminum arborescens.

    Fl. Per.: April-May.

Type: Roxburgh, Icon. 183 (K), from India.

Distribution: Base of the Himalaya, from Karot forest and Kumaon to Bengal.

Jasminum latifolium, Jasminum arborescens and Jasminum roxburghianum are very closely related. The conclusion that they may be distinct species is based on observations in Karot forest where Jasminum latifolium and Jasminum roxburghianum occur together in the same locality. More observations, especially on fresh material and on entire populations are needed to establish the taxonomic rank at which these plants should be classified.
